A koan is part of Zen practice meant to challenge logical thinking and encourage you to transcend the ordinary linear thought process. It could be a statement, a short phrase, a questions, or a story which causes you to seek a deeper understanding about the nature of reality.
It's often said that to attain enlightenment, you must see your mind. This is a koan, but what does it mean? What is your mind? How can you see it?
